How Is Chin Tip Rasping Surgery Performed?

Chin tip aesthetics is performed at the bottom of the chin, which provides the connection between the face and the neck. The jaw joint is the only mobile joint of the face that provides the opening and closing function of our mouth with the help of the joint made with the skull that are attached with very strong muscles. On the other hand, the chin tip presents a whole with various muscles adhering under the chin and under the chin tip, and contains functionally important structures.

Along with the chin tip and nose, it affects the person's profile (side) image positively or negatively. Like the nose, the tip of the chin should be proportional and compatible with the other parts of the face. Otherwise, especially from the sides, an inaesthetic profile may appear that disturbs the person.

Surgical interventions to the chin tip are determined according to some standards. The most important among these criteria is the relationship of the lower and upper teeth with each other during their position at the time of biting. It may be necessary to intervene in the lower jaw, upper jaw or both in order to change the aesthetic appearance of the jaw tip if the person also has a biting disorder, where if the teeth do not press each other in the normal position. However, if the teeth press in harmony with each other and there is no biting problem, the desired aesthetic jaw tip appearance can be achieved only with an intervention to the jaw tip.

If the chin tip is larger than normal, the aesthetic facial appearance will deteriorate, resulting in a rough and elongated face. With an operation, the chin tip can be reduced in accordance with aesthetic principles. This intervention may be in the form of removing excess bone or sliding the tip of the jaw backwards (if the bite is normal). The jaw tip, which is moved back, should be fixed in its new position with the help of a plate or screw. Smaller than normal chin tip is a more common deformity. If there is an arched and large nose at the same time, the deformity becomes more severe and the person's face may look like a bird face. In such a case, since the support of the tissues under the chin will decrease, the sagging of the soft tissues under the chin will be seen more quickly and the person will also experience a jowl deformity. Enlargement of the small chin is performed by cutting the chin bone and moving it forward or by placing various implants (silicone, medpor, titanium) on the chin. Enlarging the chin tip can also solve the jowl problem of the person.

Chin tip aesthetic surgeries are generally called genioplasty surgeries. Since the incision is made through the mouth, there is no scar on the face. Since the surgical sutures are self-dissolving sutures, there is no need for suture removal as well. Chin tip aesthetics (genioplasty) surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and normally takes about 1 hour. The patient is discharged home after one day in the hospital. Pain is usually minor and well tolerated by the use of pain relievers. Swelling in the mouth and chin heals in an average of 1 week. Until the incisions in the mouth are healed, it is enough to feed with liquid foods for about 6-7 days. Biting and eating hard objects is prohibited for 2-3 weeks. Other than that, it is not an operation that presents a lot of problems.
